What is Red Bull X-Alps?
Red Bull X-Alps is not just a race—it’s an epic battle of endurance, skill, and sheer willpower. Every two years, around 30 elite athletes take on the challenge of traversing the Alps in a thrilling mix of running, hiking, and paragliding. For nearly two weeks, competitors navigate a unique course that winds through rugged mountain chains, picturesque valleys, and iconic alpine resorts and peaks.
Since its inception in 2003, inspired by the late adventurer Hannes Arch, Red Bull X-Alps has captivated audiences worldwide. Each edition brings a fresh route, new challenges, and unforgettable stories of adventure. The event isn’t just a highlight in the world of adventure racing but also a significant highlight in aviation, showcasing the incredible synergy between human performance and the art of flight.
The 2025 Edition
The 2025 edition of Red Bull X-Alps promises to be the most exciting yet. The race kicks off on June 15 in Kitzbühel and wraps up on June 27 in Zell am See. With 35 athletes from 17 countries, this year’s event is set to push boundaries like never before.
Athletes race from 5 am to 10 pm but they can only fly during daylight hours between 6 am to 9 pm. Overnight, a mandatory rest period is in place and athletes cannot move from their location. However, each athlete is equipped with a Night Pass, which allows them to break the curfew once. This can help to gain a strategic advantage, but it comes at the cost of additional fatigue. From day four and every 48 hours thereafter, the athlete in last place is eliminated.

Every athlete will be equipped with an Omni tracker, connected to X-Alps Race Control 24/7. The athletes and their teams will be able to communicate essential information such as their well-being, Night Pass usage, and initiate their daily Rest period, for example.
In return, the Omni tracker will deliver high-quality data to the live-tracking servers, allowing you to follow the exhilarating race in real-time. With every step, glide, and strategic move, fans worldwide will experience the raw emotions and adrenaline of the athletes and their teams, bridging the gap between the remote alpine trails and living rooms around the globe.
