Declare task to LX and FLARM instruments

Plan the task once, send it to every device

It’s ten minutes to launch. You’ve been staring at the weather since breakfast, and you’ve changed your mind about the task twice already. Now you finally know exactly where you want to go. The briefing ended, and now you have to key that same task into your LX, double-check it against the paper sheet, and hope your FLARM declaration matches what you have planned.

SeeYou Navigator 3.9 removes that last scramble. Plan the task once in Navigator, tap Declare, and it’s uploaded to every connected flight instrument in your cockpit with a single click of a button.

Why did we build this?🤔

Task declaration has always been one of those jobs that’s simple in theory and annoying in practice. You’ve already entered the task in Navigator, so you need to copy it to all of your flight instruments, too. You copy and re-type the same turnpoints, one by one, with tiny knobs and rotary switches at the grid. Every extra tap is another chance for a typo, which leads to frustration after the flight.

Three things change with the new workflow:

  • No more re-typing – Build the task once on the big, responsive screen you actually enjoy using. The rest is one tap.
  • Consistency across the cockpit – What you see on Navigator is what the LX shows on approach to the start, and what FLARM writes into the IGC header.
  • Time back before launch – Two minutes saved per pilot sounds trivial until you’re the one holding up the grid.

The feature works with LXNAV flight computers (S10, S100, S8, S80 & the Nano family) and FLARM devices with IGC approval.

Before you start: get the devices paired 🔗

Navigator talks to your external instruments over Bluetooth, so they need to be paired first. If you’ve already done this and you see your LX or FLARM on the Devices page, skip ahead.

If you haven’t, the smoothest path is the Naviter Bluetooth Dongle. Plug it into your instrument’s serial port, and Navigator finds it automatically. No lengthy setups, no flaky generic Bluetooth adapters, no surprises in cold cockpits at 6 a.m. Once the dongle is connected, whatever’s on the other end (LX, FLARM, both) shows up in Navigator as a regular device.

You only need to do this once per aircraft. Next time you fly, Navigator reconnects automatically.

How to upload a task📤

Build your task the usual way – select a task from a Collection, download it from Soaring Spot, or key it in manually. Then open the Task page and declare the task to external devices.

Step 1: Tap Declare
With a task loaded, the Declare externally button is at the bottom of the task page. Tap it.

Navigator scans your connected devices for the ones that can accept a task declaration, and shows them in a list. Flip the switch on for each device you want to send the task to. You can pick one or all of them at once. Then tap Declare externally again to start.

Step 2: Watch the upload
Navigator uploads to each device in turn, with a progress bar per device so you always know where you stand.

Some instruments accept a task in under a second. Others, particularly older FLARM units, take a few seconds to write the declaration into their IGC header. Navigator queues everything up so you don’t have to wait in front of each device individually; you just watch the bars tick over.

Step 3: Confirm and launch
When every device reports success, you’re done. The dialog shows a green check next to each name, the OK button lights up, and your task is officially declared on every selected instrument; matching, byte-for-byte, the one in Navigator.

Close the dialog, finish your pre-flight, and go fly.

Tips & tricks 👇

  • Multi-device upload is the point. Don’t declare one device at a time – flip on every logger you want to feed in the selection dialog and let Navigator walk through them sequentially.
  • If one device fails, the others still get the task. A flaky Bluetooth link to one instrument won’t abort the whole operation. Reconnect that one device and re-run Declare while the others stay untouched.
  • Change the task, re-declare. Weather shifted, task changed? Re-run the declaration upload procedure. The new version overwrites the old declaration on each device, keeping everything aligned.
  • Oudie N pilots get it for free. If you’re flying with an Oudie N, the task is declared automatically – you don’t need to do anything other than select your task.
